Efficient Invariant-Manifold, Low-Thrust Planar Trajectories to the Moon ?

چکیده
Two-impulse trajectories as well as mixed invariant-manifold and low-thrust efficient transfers to the Moon are discussed. Exterior trajectories executing ballistic lunar capture are formalized through the definition of special attainable sets. The coupled restricted threebody problems approximation is used to design appropriate first guesses for the subsequent optimization. The introduction of the Moon-perturbed Sun-Earth restricted three-body problem allows to formalize the idea of ballistic escape from the Earth and to take explicitly advantage of lunar fly-by. Then, accurate first guess solutions are optimized, through a direct method approach and multiple shooting technique.

Optimal Low-Thrust, Invariant Manifold Trajectories via Attainable Sets
A method to incorporate low-thrust propulsion into the invariant manifolds technique is presented in this paper. The low-thrust propulsion is introduced by means of special attainable sets that are used in conjunction with invariant manifolds to define a first guess solution. This is later optimized in a more refined model where an optimal control formalism is used. Planar low-energy, low-thrus...
متن کاملAas 09-257 Optimization of Spacecraft Trajectories: a Method Combining Invariant Manifold Techniques and Discrete Mechanics and Optimal Control
A mission design technique that uses invariant manifold techniques together with the optimal control algorithm DMOC produces locally optimal, low ∆V trajectories. Previously, invariant manifolds of the planar circular restricted three body problem (PCR3BP) have been used to design trajectories with relatively small ∆V . Using local optimal control methods, specifically DMOC, it is possible to r...
متن کاملOn Target for Venus – Set Oriented Computation of Energy Efficient Low Thrust Trajectories
Recently new techniques for the design of energy efficient trajectories for space missions have been proposed that are based on the circular restricted three body problem as the underlying mathematical model. These techniques exploit the structure and geometry of certain invariant sets and associated invariant manifolds in phase space to systematically construct energy efficient flight paths. I...
متن کاملLow Energy Transfer to the Moon
Abstract. In 1991, the Japanese Hiten mission used a low energy transfer with a ballistic capture at the Moon which required less 1V than a standard Hohmann transfer. In this paper, we apply the dynamical systems techniques developed in our earlier work to reproduce systematically a Hiten-like mission. We approximate the Sun-Earth-Moon-spacecraft 4-body system as two 3-body systems. Using the i...
متن کاملUsing Direct Transcription to Compute Optimal Low Thrust Transfers Between Libration Point Orbits
The direct transcription method has been used to solve many challenging optimal control problems. One such example involves the calculation of a low thrust orbit transfer between libration point orbits. The recent implementation of high order discretization techniques is first described and then illustrated by computing optimal low thrust trajectories between orbits about the L1 and L2 Earth-Mo...
